School Visits and Enhanced Learning Experiences

Educational visits form an important part of our curriculum as we firmly believe that children learn best when engaged in first-hand encounters.  In between educational visits children can also take part in many learning experiences in our state-of-the-art 4D learning room which uses odours, visual and interactive learning.

Visits are organised to comply with relevant guidelines and procedures.  Some educational experiences cannot take place without the cost of such visits being funded by parents.  Such contributions are voluntary, and parents will be informed of the cost to each child should a visit be planned.

Each visit/activity will only take place if sufficient voluntary contributions are received to enable us to fund it.  The school does subside educations visits and every effort is made to keep the cost to a minimum.  If the shortfall on voluntary contributions is so great that the visit/activity cannot proceed, all monies will be returned to parents.  Parental permission is always sought before taking children from the school premises for educational visits.

We pride ourselves on being able to give children the opportunity to experience different adventures experiences and outings.

We're delighted that following a break from getting out and about due to Covid-19, trips out are very much back on the agenda.  All our visits are listed in the table below.  Click on the event to see a copy of the letter providing more information.

Year 6 - Trip to Crucial Crew - 5th November 2024

We have arranged for the Year 6 children to visit The Lifewise Centre at Hellaby on Tuesday 5th November to experience The Crucial Crew. We normally ask for a small contribution for visits, but on this occasion, we will cover the total cost, in the hope to have your support when we do ask for financial assistance.

Crucial Crew is a multi-agency experiential learning environment, which involves all the emergency services, along with other agencies. They provide Year 6 children with the knowledge and skills to cope with the dangers around them through practical experience in the form of short scenarios. In the fire safety scenario children are introduced into a bedroom. They are taught how to deal with the discovery of a fire in their home and then they have to deal with the situation on their own. The children are also taught:

  • To make a fire plan at home
  • How to make a 999 call
  • The importance of smoke alarms
  • Self-preservation during a fire
  • Fire safety in the home
  • The foolishness of hoax calls

On the day of the visit, children should come to school wearing their school uniforms and a warm coat via their cloakroom doors for 8.25/8.30am for registration as the coach will leave at 8.45am prompt. They will return to school for approximately 3.15/3.20pm. Children will need to be in full school uniform with a warm coat and sensible footwear. They should bring a packed lunch or pre-order a grab, chargeable at £2.75 unless entitled to free school meals.

Year 4 - Trip to Leeds Royal Armouries Museum - 5th November 2024

Our trip to Leeds Royal Armouries is almost here. It will be a fun jampacked day where the children will take part in some exciting workshops.

The visit will take place on; Tuesday 5th November

Children will need to be in school for 8.25/8.30am prompt through their cloakroom doors as we will be leaving school by 8.45am and any late comers will be left behind.

You must send a packed lunch unless you have pre-ordered a grab a bag as the kitchen will not be supplying any spares.

We expect to arrive back at school at approximately 3.15/3.20pm but this will obviously depend on the traffic – please be prepared that it could be later. Children will be dismissed through their cloakroom doors (not from the coach) so you should wait on the playground to collect them.

The cost for the trip is £15 per child and this is payable via school gateway or in cash to the school office. The deadline for payment is 24th October.

Year 6 - Kingswood Residential - 2nd April to 4th April 2024

We are delighted to be able to offer your child the exciting opportunity of a three day (two night) residential trip to Kingswood Centre at the Dearne Valley site. This trip is open to children in Year 6 (current Year 5 children).

The total cost of the visit is £140.00 which includes return travel by coach, full board accommodation and a full programme of activities.

Educationally and socially the residential trip proves enjoyable and very worthwhile. Formerly the Earth Centre, one of the millennium commission projects, Dearne Valley was transformed into a state-of-the-art activity centre in 2012. Dearne Valley is an environmentally sustainable centre, complete with one of Europe’s largest solar panels and an on-site water treatment plant. With fantastic indoor and outdoor activity facilities surrounded by the beautiful countryside of South Yorkshire, a purpose-built water sports lake and access to the adjacent River Don, Dearne Valley offers something for everyone.

  • The closing date for the non-refundable deposit of £50.00 is Wednesday 25th September
  • A second instalment of a further £50.00 is to be paid by Wednesday 27th November
  • A final payment of £40.00 by Friday 17th January 2025
