YEAR 1 - READING BOOKS

21 March 2025 (by Jade Taylor (JadeT))

Please can we remind Parents/ Carers of our Year 1 children that you should return your child's book bag with their reading book and reading records each Thursday they will then be changed and returned home on Fridays. Research suggests that children who read regularly outside of school perform significantly better in school assessments and so your support at home is essential in ensuring that your child makes the progress they are capable of. You can help your child to achieve their full potential by listening to them read daily (for about 15 minutes). This will also help and prepare them prior to their upcoming phonics screening test at the beginning of June.

Please can we also remind you we now have access to books online on Oxford Owl. These books are read in school first so that children should be confident when sharing them with yourselves at home. There are even quizzes to accompany each book! Please continue to also read the ‘Book Bag’ books that are sent home each week. If you need help signing in and using Oxford Owl, please speak to your child's Teacher.

We understand that accidents do happen, and sometimes books are lost or damaged, but we need to replace each damaged or lost book. In such circumstances, please inform the school office or your child’s class teacher about the name of the book which has been lost/damaged and pay £2.00 to cover the cost of a replacement book. If you have any unreturned books at home, please return these so that they can be borrowed and enjoyed by other pupils. We do not have spares if any books are not returned.

Thank you for your support.
