Year 5 and 6 have had a zoom today with the author Zohra Nabi. Zohra’s first book, The Kingdom over the Sea, was nominated as Waterstones Book of the Month in 2023 and she has now written a brand new mystery series for 9+ readers. The first in the series is Deep Dark and is a fantastical mystery adventure. Zohra grew up creating stories for her two younger sisters. She talked to us all about her writing process and her inspiration for becoming a writer instead of following her chosen career path of being a lawyer. Deep Dark is a Dickensian-style adventure set in nineteenth century London with a sea monster lurking in the Thames. Zohra’s aim is for the book and the event to get students interested in this era, whilst also encouraging engagement with nineteenth century writing. Deep Dark has not been released yet but we will be getting copies in school after Easter.
