DANGER!!20 November 2024 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift)) |
The school crossing patrol supervisor has been in touch regarding the increasing amount of inconsiderate parking by parents. They write;
In numerous instances, parents are parking in close proximity to the crossing points, thereby obstructing the wardens’ view of oncoming traffic. This situation substantially heightens the risk for both the wardens and the children. Additionally, there have been reports of parents parking on marked zig-zag lines, as well as on single and double yellow lines for extended periods. Such actions are not only hazardous but also contravene the Highway Code, potentially resulting in penalty charge notices. Furthermore, parking at junction corners exacerbates these risks.
It is important to remind parents that they do not have the right to park wherever they wish. Parking regulations are in place to ensure the safety of all road users, particularly children and school crossing patrol wardens. Ignoring these regulations can lead to dangerous situations and legal consequences.
Alarmingly, there have also been instances of vehicles “driving through” the crossing patrol while they are in the process of stopping traffic. This constitutes a criminal offence, and such incidents will necessitate police involvement.
These actions can lead to fines and, more critically, pose severe safety risks to parents, children, and the school crossing patrol warden.
