YEAR 6 NEWS

8 July 2024 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift))

We are aware that over the past few weeks we have seen rapid growth spurts, split trousers and broken uniform. We understand that in September your children will no longer need Kings Oak uniform and have therefore decided that due to the last few weeks being a bit hectic with lots going on (performances, party day and sports activities), the children can come partly in their school sports kit- what they would usually wear for PE. This can be worn every day from now until the end of term. This should include:

  • Blue polo (usual school one), white polo or coloured PE t-shirt.
  • Black or dark grey jogging bottoms, shorts or sports leggings- with minimal logos or decor.
  • Knee-length cycling shorts if the weather takes a turn and decides to warm up.
  • Y6 leavers' hoodie.

We must remind you that for high school transition, all children are required to wear their current uniform-unless stated by the school- which includes pale blue polo shirt, black/ dark grey trousers, dark grey shorts, dark grey knee length skirt/pinafore and in summer, blue gingham dresses or culottes/skorts, navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan - with school logo or plain and finally sensible black shoes, boots or trainers (no heels, open toes or Crocs). This will be a non-negotiable for high school transition. None of the schools accept jogging bottoms or leggings as a substitute.

Performances: Please be reminded that unless we have been told otherwise, ALL children will be kept in school on Thursday 11th July ready for the performance which is due to start at 4:00pm. The doors will open at 3:45pm.  For the afternoon performance on Monday 15th July, the doors will be opened at 1:40pm ready for a prompt 1:50pm start. After each performance, the children will be required to change out of their costumes and back into their uniform before they can leave school. They will be brought back to the hall to be dismissed.  The actual performance will be around 1 hour long. There are a small handful of tickets left for each performance. Please purchase these from the classroom doors.

Party day:  Again, party day (prom) is on Tuesday 16th July. Children can arrive at school from 10:30am- please let us know if this is a problem and we can offer supervision from 8:40am as normal.  Reminder that no false nails are allowed.

Last day:  On the last day of term (22nd July), Y6 will be allowed to wear/bring in a polo shirt for each other to sign to keep as a memory. Please send your child with an additional shirt as they usually get full up quite quickly.
