SCHOOL VISITS7 December 2023 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift)) |
With only half of parents/carers having made a payment towards next Wednesday’s Year 6 visit to The National Coal Mining Museum, we may need to cancel this trip as school cannot afford this level of financial support in offering children these experiences. We understand that Christmas is fast approaching and that £15.00 is a lot of money to some of you. Even a part payment would be appreciated.
All trips are subsidised by school but we need voluntary contributions to cover most of the cost. We do provide a lot of extended learning opportunities which we fully fund, such as the visit to Crucial Crew or workshops that visit school to help bring classroom topics to life. However, usually just once during the course of each year, we ask parents to contribute to the cost of a trip out. As you can appreciate, the cost of the coach alone is now quite expensive before we pay for entrance and workshops at different venues we visit.
We always try to give at least eight weeks notice so you can just pay a couple of pounds each week rather than having to find a lump sum. A parent of three children told us recently that they save £1 in a jar every week and then when a trip comes along the money is there ready to pay. We thought this was an excellent idea!
Just to forewarn you, when we return to school in January, we will be sharing information about Year 5, Foundation Stage 2 and Nursery visits which are all taking place around the middle of March. Please keep this in mind when doing your budgeting – thank you. Other year groups will most likely be venturing out in the summer term so think about the pound jar idea so you’re ready when the time comes.
