UNIFORM15 June 2023 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift)) |
We understand that the recent message sent out about the wearing of uniform has caused some upset at the thought of spending at this time of year when times are difficult financially for many families. We get it.
We thought about leaving this until September but the issue particularly with the older girls was spiralling out of control with leggings turning into cycling shorts, turning into hot pants – totally inappropriate, we know that you’ll agree. As some children have only started wearing these items in the last couple of weeks it is assumed that they have suitable uniform at home. We’ve not asked parents to buy anything new, just to stop sending them in clothes they knock about in at home. Most of the children we’ve spoken to have now returned to wearing the correct clothes, the uniform they already had at home but were choosing not to wear.
Black shoes/trainers don’t come in until September but we wanted to give plenty of notice before parents start buying.
We just want the children to dress age appropriately in a school uniform designed for purpose. We do not want to add to any genuine financial worries.
Can we please remind you our Parent Support Advisor can often help through tricky times. With no stigma or judgement, Julie can supply clothing from the swap shop (please remember to donate to school any grown out of items still in good condition), food vouchers and food bank referral, amongst other things.
