Subject Intent Statement
At Kings Oak Primary Learning Centre we aim for all of our children to have high aspirations of themselves. We want our children to aspire to be more and not to have more. Our aim is for our children to make positive contributions to their school community as well as the wider community. SMSC underpins everything we do at this school and is integrated into all aspects of school life.
Implementation
- Lessons in each aspect of the curriculum will integrate SMSC and opportunities for SMSC will be planned into each subject
- Every member of staff in the school will promote and model positive examples of behaviour. They will treat every child as a unique individual
- The school community will be a place where children should expect to feel safe and be able to express themselves as individuals.
- Our children will strive to differentiate between right and wrong and learn to understand how their actions can affect other people.
- School and classroom rules should reflect, promote and reward acceptable behaviour and provide opportunities to celebrate pupils’ work and achievements.
British Values
As well as promoting good social and moral values within the school, we also promote the following fundamental British values: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual liberty, Mutual respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Democracy
Children have the opportunity to have their voices heard in school. Pupil Voice is accessed readily during classwork and is evidenced in classroom displays and whole-class display books.
Rule of Law
The importance of laws, whether they be those in class, the school or the country are reinforced in school regularly through the SMSC whole school curriculum overview and whole school assembly.
Individual Liberty
Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make personal choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.
Mutual Respect
Part of our school ethos and positive behaviour policy has revolved around our values to work hard, be kind and choose wisely. Our values are reflected in our school rules, displays and in the curriculum where opportunities arise.
Tolerance
This is achieved through enhancing children's understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society and by giving them opportunities to experience such diversity through our Curriculum. Assemblies’ are planned termly to recognise key dates within different faiths and cultures such as Ramadan and Holi.
