Music
Vision
Here at Kings Oak, we value the power of music and aim to surround children with music as often as possible. We believe music is a powerful tool to support children to develop self-confidence, their thinking and listening skills and communication skills. It is also a great way to empower, and support children with their emotional wellbeing, allowing time for reflection and personal expression.
The curriculum offered allows a high level of flexibility and choice, ensuing the needs of all children are met. Lessons are fun and practical, engaging and exciting for our pupils. The skills-based approach we employ, allows children to developed their knowledge and understanding through hands on experiences, and is developed and re-visited across year groups. Singing is a key to our celebrations in school, and all children will have opportunities to perform in productions and concerts throughout their whole school life.
Barnsley Music Hub provide weekly class instrumental lessons to all children in year 3, where children learn to play and the culminates in a grand performance at the Metrodome every year. Through our work with Rock Steady, children have the opportunity to work with musical professionals to learn instruments and perform as part of a band. We continue to develop links with Barnsley Youth Choir who have provided workshops for our children. We aim to ensure all children experience live music performances and have recently had visitors from Opera North, The Concerteenies and local brass bands.
Our aim to ensure children leave Kings Oak with an appreciation for many different genres of music through the ages, a good understanding of musical concepts, a confidence to perform and overall, a love of music.
