Vision

Here at Kings Oak Primary Learning Centre, we have designed our mathematics mastery curriculum to ensure that every child can achieve excellence in mathematics. Using the White Rose Maths Hub documents as a starting point, our teachers plan to ensure that mathematics is taught progressively and builds on prior knowledge, using year group concepts and objectives. Through developing fluency in mathematical processes, the reasoning of mathematical concepts and an emphasis on problem-solving, our curriculum has been developed to give each child the tools needed to achieve their full potential.

What is the maths mastery curriculum?

Our maths mastery curriculum is designed so children can experience a sense of awe and wonder as they solve a problem for the first time, discover different solutions and make links between different areas of mathematics. It provides pupils with a deep understanding of the subject through a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach. This ensures pupils fully understand what they are learning.

Key features of our Maths Mastery curriculum:

  • A creative and engaging approach to learning
  • High expectations for every child
  • Number sense and place value as a cornerstone of all teaching and learning
  • Focus on mathematical thinking and language in order to ensure that children can confidently talk about their learning
  • Resources to support learners of all abilities
  • Problem-solving at the heart of learning

Mathematics Mastery places emphasis on the cumulative mastery of essential knowledge and skills in mathematics. It embeds a deeper understanding of maths by utilising concrete, pictorial, abstract approach so that pupils understand what they are doing rather than just learning to repeat routines without grasping what is happening.
