History
Vision
The aim of history teaching at Kings Oak PLC is to promote a sense of curiosity and stimulate interest in the lives of people in the past. We understand the importance of teaching history well in order to help children reflect on events from the past and understand how we can learn from these today in order to influence our future choices. We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this, they develop a sense of identity and a cultural understanding based on their historical heritage. By making comparisons between civilizations throughout the world we aid children in understanding their own and other cultures so they are increasingly prepared to live in multicultural Britain.
Lessons at Kings Oak PLC are designed to be engaging, challenging, and promote discussion allowing children to gain cultural capital. Children are required to analyse historical sources, debate questions and construct their own historical arguments. By teaching vocabulary explicitly, we aim to enable children to speak confidently about historical time periods and make comparisons between them using common threads.
